So I showed the family "Coraline"

And sadly, my mom had to leave a third of the way through because she needed to sleep early, for work. (She works from five AM to one PM)But the siblings, who according to my parents can NEVER sit still and watch a movie anymore, were transfixed. They whispered and nudged each other a few times, but they sat through the entire thing. Even Dad, who doesn't usually go for the movies I like, stood by the couch and watched. Even gave his own commentary at times, and made little insights.
"The door opened during the day...She's getting stronger."

My little sister got scared during the eye-search though. After the garden scene, she just LEAPED off teh couch and hid her face in Dad's legs. (She's six.) He asked, quietly, if the movie was scaring her and she just whimpered and nodded. Spent the rest of the movie in Dad's arms, alternatively hiding her face in his shoulder or peeking at the screen. One of my brothers (nine) got "freaked out," in his words.

But, when the end credits started...they said they liked it. Brothers were freaked, sister was scared ("I HATE buttons now!"), but Dad actually said he liked it! And he said it enthusiastically. May not sound like much, but...well, when you spend nineteen years of life havig your Dad rolling his eyes at whatever movie you're watching, and he suddenly says he liked this one, it's a fracking miracle.

Nine-year-old brother asked if they could keep it, at least for a few weeks. Maybe I should get them a copy for Christmas. ;)
(And maybe Dad can watch "9" while I'm on Christmas Break. ;) )

Thanksgiving~

Oooooof....Well, I think I'm either gonna blow up or throw up. Haven't decided which one yet. Last night I got home at around seven or so. And the dog, of course, started barking her head off at me. I seriously thought she'd attack me, she was so loud, and jumping all over the place! Dad had to put her in her cage, and she kept on barking...for two freakin' hours! Finally calmed down after Dad made me hold her collar for a while (long story...) And I might be able to get the cat down to come back with me, it all depends on what the landlady says.

Grandma and Grandpa showed up a few hours ago, with hugs, kisses, and money for us. The littles got five dollars apiece, I got thirty. Because I'm older, you see. ;) And then dinner! Turkey, potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and rolls. Nobody wanted the gizzards, though I almost took them by accident. XD I thought they were just little bits of dark meat! And Mom let us have eggnog for a drink. We got four pies in the 'fridge, two pumpkin, two are covered so I've no CLUE what they are. But I better not have any yet, because if I try, I'll end up exploding all over the walls. ;)

Brother hasn't come back for the meal. Good riddance, I s'pose.

No, I don't wanna 'screw the internet" just yet...I'm going home tomorrow for Thanksgiving vacation. Gonna skip the second half of classes, and get on home just in time for my little brother B's Birthday!

Well, I can't COMPLAIN exactly. It's an odd mix...I'm calmly working on my PhotoShop assignment, I'm slightly jittery from that high-power energy drink I just had, and I'm nervous because apparently I'm failing Art History.

#2 I think the first thing I ever read of yours was the gender switch Mello/Near Death Note fics. What gave you the idea to make Near the girl?
Uhm....Well, I've found several fics that made L a girl, Light a girl, Mello a girl...and at one point I wondered "Yeah, but what about Near? How would that go?" I started thinking on it more, liking it more and more...You know, a slightly creepy, quiet and calm girl who actually gets to do a Shut Up Hannibal to Light and catch him. I liked the idea that after using a few girls, he'd get pwned by one. XD Admit it, that'd have been funny.
That and Near would make a pretty cute girl.

#3 Related to above: do you think making Near the girl in canon would create a bigger change in what happened?
In the outcome of the story, you mean? No way. The only differences I can think of are small ones, they'd really have no impact on the story. The biggest thing I could think of would be fan-response to a girl trumping Light after two girls were used by him, and two were killed by him.

#4 The Princess and the Frog - atm looking to be a triumphant return to what they do best for Disney, or is it trying to restart something that really doesn't work anymore?
Right now, I'm thinking it's at least a return...I can't say it'll be triumphant yet, but the trailers and clips are looking good, and the music's certainly nice. (I have "When We're Human" stuck in my head, actually.) And hey, John Lasseter's overseeing it, it's directed by Ron and John...they've all done good before, right?
I did read though, that the next 2D film won't be out for a few years after PatF, so I think they're testing the waters with this one. We can only hope they've done a great job! (I hope they go back to their roots, you know. Not just with 2D animation, bu movies based on fairytales, or original stories that are still pretty heartwarming and stick with us, make us remember magic again. Most of their recent stuff hasn't been that great, imho, so they need to go back to what worked for them before.)

Actually, about a week or so after Black Friday...Got homework to do you know, and I don't like shopping RIGHT after. Also, i won't have access to a store until the following Monday. ^^;

A few thoughts about AU fics

So as most of you guys probably know, I'm a frequent visitor (and ranter) on [info]fanficrants. And a rant I see a lot is the whole "Why don't you just put in original names instead of canons names and make it an original story?" in regards to AU fics.

Now I wonder, where's the line drawn? I mean, I'll admit it, I'm a huge sucker for a well-written AU fic. But for me, all it needs to keep me happy and not turn into "Ragey McRantRant" is for the characters to have some semblance of who they are in canon, and for it to be enjoyable (and containing little to no typos is a great plus, too.) I'll admit it, I've seen several AU fics that I've ADORED where a canon's personality was a bit off. But it made sense, given the story's universe, events that occurred, etc. Especially in the case of "Event never happened to him," or "He grew up as/with This instead of That." And others I've loved had different relationships between characters, different ways they met, best friends in canon had only briefly crossed paths in AU-fic, etc. etc. etc...And some of these ones I've found were pretty damn good. Again, sure, sometimes a canon's personality was a bit different, relationships not as they were in canon, and of COURSE it was a whole different universe. But really, is it so bad? I mean, where do you draw the line? Some of the ones I've loved would have been scorned by others because "Bah! It's just an original fic with the canon's names instead." Yeah, and some of those canon facts are still there, too. Did you miss those? So-and-so still has his superpower and hides it, he's just in a band now, Such-and-such is still evil, manipulating his girltoys, wants GirlA dead and is looking for CanonPowerSource, he's just a pirate captain now, etc.

I've found, and loved, Pirate!AU's, Futuristic!AUs, Genderswitch!Au's, Human!AU's (in the cases of WALL-E and 9...), and even a BoardingSchool!/DisguisingHerGender!AU. (I know that last one sounds cliche, but believe me, the execution was GREAT.) But any of those fics just would've been passed up...Are we not SUPPOSED to read or enjoy an AU, then? Is that what some people are trying to say?

Ugh, this is all just a bunch of nonsense by now, isn't it? I'm having some trouble putting my thoughts into the right words, but hopefully you know what I mean.

Okay...we have a cat that we all call "Mama Kitty." She's an old cat, getting on in her years...She's gotten sick a few times; an ear infection, some arthritis, etc but she's always bounced back healthier than ever! (Roomie A thinks it's the tuna/salmon and milk she gives her.)

But...well, this morning, Mama Kitty started walking around, favoring her entire right side...Even her head's flopped off to one side. She's trying so hard to keep moving like she normally does, but it must be so hard for her. Roomies say she must have had a stroke this morning/last night.

I'm so sad now....Mama Kitty is such a sweetheart, she loves everyone so much and we love her! And...just to see her like this now, and realizing that she might die soon...It's just too awful. She was so healthy-looking and happy a few nights ago, I just thought that maybe she'd be okay.

*sniff*

It's almost here, I can't believe it!

I can't believe it. It's November 14th.

The Princess and the Frog comes out December 11th...

It's only a month away! That just sunk in this morning as I woke up. It's...that...I... You know how big a deal this is? I'd heard about the movie two years ago, and have been waiting this long for it, and now...it's nearly here! That's just...amazing, I have to say.
And I know what I'mma do on the 11th...I'm gonna get everything done for the day, go out to the theater, hopefully talking someone into going with me, and I'm getting in there, with my free popcorn coupon that I was saving JUST for this...! *rambling*

Ahem. Excuse me. ^^;
(If it's good enough, I'm probably going to take my little sister or best friend to see it when I go home for Christmas break.)

And now if you'll excuse me, there is a peculiar, warm and cinnamon-y smell coming from the kitchen that I must investigate further. *goes*

I did some doodles of random girls during Figure Drawing. ( I find it easy to draw girl-figures, even though everyone I know says they're hard...all those curves. But I find it pretty easy, like second-nature.)

I effin' LOVE getting my friends involved in my fandoms. I really do. Or at least convincing one (so far) to join an RP.

Chances are, said friends are reading this. If they are, I have to say to them: You know I love you guys. You rock. And you know cool it is, getting you involved in something I like? (Of course you do, you did the same to me!)


You know, it's funny...this is the ONLY fandom I've gotten a friend into somehow. Everything else I like, if someone hasn't already gotten part of it, then they watch/play/read it, and they hate it. =/

Aw man, I hate it when this happens....

We all take turns cooking in our house, and I had my stuff thawed out/bought for my night. Third time in a row, however, someone goes and heats up soup for everybody. God blessit, did you not see the chicken thawing out in the fridge, my name written in big letters on the calender?

Good news is that one of the roomies is at least apologetic. And she's in teh process of cooking a different meal (she doesn't like the soup, maybe?) and letting me eat with her...And I can cook my teriyaki chicken tomorrow.
But still, sheesh, I get everything ready THREE TIMES and each time I get shot down somehow. >< Kinda frustrating.

The Only Sane Girl?

You ever get involved in something, like a fandom, and after a time you feel almost like you're The Only Sane One? Well, okay, you're a little weird, and you can fan over things you really like in that fandom, but...
Sometimes it feels that others in there are so weird, that any outsider who sees them assumes EVERYONE in the fandom must be insane fangirls/boys who are screwed up in the head?

*sigh*

Like Death Note. I'm a fan of it. I read the entire manga, saw all but two episodes of the anime (and that's just because I was too tired). I found the characters interesting, complex, the story was creative, had a lot to think about (you can get into long debates on "Who was "right" and who was "wrong?") And yet, every other fan I meet, ESPECIALLY the girls, only seem in it because it was popular, or for "omg teh hawt bishieboiz." Gotten to a point where, if I say I enjoy it, everyone around me rolls their eyes, mutters about "stupid fangirls," and the like. Damn it.

So this has already happened to me with the Death Note fandom, I don't want it to happen to my new fandom, too!

*sniff* So I took a nap today....And apparently I bit my tongue in my sleep, because now there's a big swollen spot one the top/side (somewhere in the middle) of my tongue, and it's VERY hard to work my tongue properly now. ;_; Taking feels kinda funny, and eating? -sigh-

Damn it, and I'm HUNGRY, too....I don't want my tongue to still be swollen tomorrow, during school!

*sigh* Okay, I officially don't like some of my classmates...Just overheard one of them talking about how she "almost hit a guy from school" with her car yesterday, and is laughing her ass off about it, saying "that/he was so gay! XD"


(In other news, have you ever heard a twenty-year-old randomly talk about how she likes the word "concubine?" In the middle of a lecture? It's.....weird.)
